Corporate Finance


This module aims to provide knowledge and understanding of key management issues in corporate finance with a focus on a broad range of issues including that of corporate investment and the financing of such investments. After a brief overview of the role of the financial manager and the overriding objectives of companies, students will be introduced to the principles of investment appraisal. Participants will also address the management of a firm’s liquidity position through optimising short term financing and managing cash surpluses. This is then complemented by analysing the range of long-term financing sources which a business can utilise and the management issues associated with forming an appropriate mixture of debt and equity. The role and importance of credit rating agencies will be explored along with the use of emerging sources of finance available through the continually innovating global financial markets. The module will finally review key business and financial risks which a firm faces and how these impact the decisions of a corporate financial manager.
